Project: Redesign the menu and packaging label for Café Columbus.
-
Fun/impressive fact about the café: all coffee beans provided at Café Columbus were sourced and roasted by the shop owner, he is a one-man-army (as a former barista, I can testify how delicious the coffee drinks are!).
-
Location: Yilang, Taiwan.
-
Languages to be provided on the packaging and menu: Chinese (mandatory!), English (nice to have, many tourists visit Taiwan).
Problems with the old packaging label
-
The typography is hard to read and disappears into the background image.
-
Printed information is only available in English, the shop owner still has to handwrite Chinese information.
-
There isn't space to write the roast date or weight.
Problems with the old menu
-
There are too many typographies which make the menu unnecessarily busy.
-
The layout lacks details, such as aligning the prices.
-
The menu items are not categorized.
-
The images don't represent the menu items and can be distracting.
New design — Packaging labels
-
Minimalistic design. The coffee shop's name is presented in both Mandarin and English.
-
Upon the shop owner's request, coffee tasting notes were not added to the label (usually you'll find this information on coffee packaging). The owner encourages customers to enjoy the coffee without influence.
-
I made an additional Contact Info Label for the consumer's convenience.

New design — Menus
-
I made two formats: Booklet (following the old menu's dimensions) and A4 Size.
-
Menu items are categorized. Drinks are indicated whether they are served hot, iced, or either way.
-
Contact information is available.
-
In Taiwan, it's uncommon to include the zip code in the address field. And since Café Columbus is a neighborhood coffee shop, including the English address was also unnecessary.

Project: Design movie poster for New Age
My lovely and multi-talented friend, Rae Larz (actor, director, writer, producer, and music artist) provided the photos and information for the poster design. Her clear guidance made the design process super easy. It was a true pleasure to work with her, check out Rae's website!
